GODS and MONSTERS
As an artist, I stand at the intersection of my own life and a profound ancient narrative, forever intertwined with the name I carry - Eve. For nearly half a century, I have carried the weight of the biblical story of the first woman, the mother of humanity. I am Eve, and my artwork is an exploration of how we transcend, redefine, and ultimately reclaim the narratives that have been passed down through the ages.
"Gods and Monsters" is a deeply personal journey, one that mirrors my own experiences of overcoming adversity. I became a single mother at the young age of 23, determined to break free from the mold society had cast me in. I put myself through college, building a career from the ground up, all while raising my children on my own. I never remarried, and my journey was a testament to the strength and resilience that women possess when faced with life's challenges.
The first painting in this series is a reflection of my own life and a meditation on the resonance between my story and that of Eve. We are not defined by these archetypes; we are the architects of our own destinies. In the face of adversity and expectations, we rise as both gods and monsters, forging our own paths and embracing the full spectrum of our identities.
In "Gods and Monsters," I embark on a journey through history, delving into the stories of remarkable women from Greek, Roman, biblical, and contemporary eras. These women, like me, refused to be bound by the narratives prescribed to them. They shattered the chains of societal expectations, defying the gods and monsters that sought to define them.
We, as women, are the gods of our own stories, the creators of our destinies. We are also the monsters, untamed and unapologetic in our pursuit of self-determination. "Gods and Monsters" seeks to celebrate and honor these powerful figures throughout history who have exemplified the divine and the monstrous within us all.
Through my artwork, I aim to liberate women from the constraints of myth and expectation, inviting them to take their place as architects of their own stories. We are not simply the products of history; we are the authors of our own narratives of history itself. In each brushstroke, in every stroke of color, I bring to life the stories of women who have left an indelible mark on the world and who have shown us the way forward.
"Gods and Monsters" is an artistic exploration of the indomitable spirit of Eve, of my own journey, and of countless women who have risen above adversity and societal expectations. Through this series, I invite you to join me in celebrating the divine complexity and untamed strength of the female archetype. We are the gods and monsters of our own stories, and our narratives are written in the colors of our own creation.
